Monica De Leon
I discovered cycling almost 6 years ago and it has changed my life in so many ways. I am a part of a wonderful community of cyclists and I have made so many amazing friends, all of whom have enriched my life. While I have learned more about cycling and the many disciplines of cycling, I have learned so much more about myself.
Cycling has taught me that I am capable of much more than I ever imagined. There is little more rewarding than summitting a long climb and knowing that I pedaled my way to the top. Most recently, I have started adventure riding through bikepacking.
One of my goals for leading group rides is to bring women together and to grow women’s cycling all over Southern California. Our rides are social rides because it allows us to really get to know each other.
I look foward to more rides with friends and meeting more cyclists. Follow me on Instagram!
I was introduced to road cycling at a young age. I would watch my uncle’s ride centuries or sag them as they rode down the coast. I rarely saw women riding, so my initial thought was “this is a man’s sport”
I would ride “Costco” bikes on the river trail casually, but always felt like there was something missing. I later realized it was SPEED that was missing. I wanted to go faster!
In 2006, I purchased my first road bike. I mainly rode with men because I didn’t know many women who also rode. I am grateful for the men who took the time to teach me and make me a stronger rider, but I didn’t always want to ride myself to death on every ride. I set out to meet more women to ride with. I met my “bestie” (Monica) and we started riding socially. We enjoyed it so much we started incorporating coffee/pastry stops and that took our cycling to another level.
Cycling, eating, drinking, talking, laughing with my best friend was the best! Most of the time we did more laughing than miles #moresmilesthanmiles.
We wanted to share that feeling with other women. Riding with other women to share our love of cycling, food and a good time! No QOMs, no fees, no A, B group, no drop (for reals) and no pressure, just a ride to encourage, empower, educate and enjoy a good pastry.
